Royal Caledonian Ball

Och aye the noo, Donald where’s me troosers, it’s time for the 161^st Royal Caledonian Ball. To be held on the 1^st May 2009 at the Grosvenor House Park Lane, London W1.

It’s a time to enjoy one of the few occasions these days to don traditional formal dress and enter into the spirit of a more decadent age. It’s full Highland evening dress for men and beautiful full length dresses for the ladies. It’s obviously a very Scottish affair but one that has been a tradition since the 1840’s, and but for the odd interruption, world wars and the like, one that has been held every year since.

The Royal Caledonian Ball is an extravaganza of traditional Scottish fair and a wonderful opportunity to watch and enjoy some of the most refined and time-honoured dances. And if you are feeling in the mood there is no restrictions to joining in and taking part in the reels. A reel is another word for a lively and traditional Scottish dance Most of all this is a great chance not just to dress up in your best formal gown or learn some new Scottish reels but to support some worthy charities which the Royal Caledonian has been doing for the last 150 years or so. The Royal Caledonian Annual Ball is great fun, and you don’t have to be Scottish to support and enjoy it. It is a fabulous evening out whilst at the same time supporting some very worthwhile charities. Don’t miss this, it’s great fun, ‘Donald where’s me troosers’ it’s off to the reel we go.

Galvin at Windows

If you have a hankering for rich French food whilst enjoying some of the best panoramic views of London then Galvin at Windows is the ideal place for you. It’s situated in the giddy heights of the 28^th floor of the Hilton Park Lane.

The view is simply stunning and as you might expect in order to compete with this the food needs to be of the highest order. Thankfully it is.

You can’t help but to be swept along by the tide of romance encapsulated inside this bubble with its spectacular views seemingly dedicated to enhancing the mood d’amour.

The French cuisine is rich and luxurious and is good enough to be able to distract you from the view outside. Don’t go there expecting to be able to maintain that diet. You’ll need a full work out at the gym after your visit, but its well worth the effort. The food is divine and extravagantly self indulgent which has been lovingly prepared and is beautifully presented.

There is a good selection of wines and interestingly you can buy wines by the glass for each course. And when wooing is your aim there is fine selection of champagnes and vintage champagnes on offer.

Amongst this oasis of fine cuisine, vintage champagne and spectacular vista there is an ever ready ensemble of over eager staff. Always attentive and always on hand, but when you are caught in the moment enjoying the romance of the occasion the overly attentiveness of the staff can be a little irksome. Though this may seem a touch harsh, but when you take on board the surroundings and the fine food it is only right that you will want to indulge in a little one on one exclusivity without the interruption of over attentive staff.

Galvin at Windows is an oasis for lovers and a kindling for romance, whist offering some of the best French food in town and some of the most spectacular panoramic views of London you are ever likely to get.
